I remember growing up and thinking how it was going to be the time of my life in my mid-to-late 20's. I'll have graduated from college and be making money! However, the harsh reality is that it's not so magical. Even though I worked through college and practically did nothing fun to save on expenses, I still graduated with a sum of student loan debt.
It can be frustrated when I did not do the fun activities that my friends were doing because either I was working or it was too much money and I still have all this debt. However, I need to remind myself that my debt would be SO much more if I was not as proactive as I am.
This is why it can be so frustrating to hear the stereotypes of millennials being lazy/mooching off of people. Do I mooch off of people? Sure I do, but not because I'm lazy...I do it because I'm submerged in student loan debt while trying to save money for a condo and pay for the essentials. Do I rely on my parents support? Somewhat! They do not pay for my things, they just have told me that they'd help if I ever was not able to pay my bills (then I would pay them back when I had the funds). This takes off an immense wait of worrying/anxiety about paying for things. I am so grateful I have family support during this time. I work as often as I can, so it's not like I'm sitting in my parents basement playing video games. Plus, my parents love all the stuff I get to review and they get to use, so they say we are "even" in those regards :).
I guess my main complaint is that people are just looking at certain aspects without analyzing WHY these actions are happening. I am a Millennial who works my tail off to support myself (and my dog), please understand that all millennials are not lazy. Many of us are just trying to figure out how to "do life" and may need some help along the way (much like older people may need some guidance with technology as it progresses).
If we have respect for each other and help one another when we can, I think the world would be a happier place. :)
