What was in the BarkBox:
In my box there were 2 treat bags (Fish flavored and Lamb & Honey flavored), one treat chew (all natural Pig Twizzle), and 2 toys (a shark with a squeaker and a taco with a crumply outside that can be removed to reveal the inner taco that has a squeaker).
Initial thoughts:
So when I first opened it, Ainslee was so excited. She was sniffing it and ended up grabbing the shark toy and running into her play pen with it. She came back as I was trying to take everything out and look at it (and remove the tags so she could play with it). She was mesmorized by the long pig twizzle. My pup is a dachshund mix, so she has a long body and the twizzle was almost as long as her! I was shocked given the fact she's on the bigger end for the "small dog" section.
Dog Chew/Pig Twizzle:
As I was opening it, it broke in half, which I was happy about because that makes it much more reasonable. She took this to her play pen, had a stare down with it, and then buried it under her blanket in her kennel. Later, she took it out and chewed on it for a little while, but then she hid it again. I think she likes it and just wants to save it for later because she ate recently and probably isn't very hungry.
Dog Treats:
I gave her one of the Lamb & Honey Treats and she grabbed it and then dropped it. I assumed this meant she didn't like it but she ended up picking it up and eating it. She took the fish flavored treat right away. The size of the treats were medium. There weren't a lot in the bag but they were made in the USA with good ingredients, so I'm happy about that. Barkbox does a nice job of having products from the USA that are made with high-quality ingredients. Personally, I don't like Fish or Lamb or Honey, so the treats kind of gross me out, but Ainslee seemed to enjoy them. She didn't act like she wanted more than one though, she seemed content with the one treat (of each kind) she got.
Dog Toys:
The taco has yet to be fully explored. The outer shell crinkles when you hold it, so it makes quite a bit of noise. Ainslee doesn't seem to captivated by this element, but when I took off the shell (via the velcros connecting the shell to the inside) she liked the squeaking the squeaker on the inside. I think it's a really cute treat and something she'll likely learn to enjoy, but she's obsessed with the shark toy right now because it has a squeaker that is easy to get to and it has a surf board in it's mouth, which she can hold onto to carry the shark with her.
Final Thoughts:
Like last time, I think Barkbox is just so fun! I would never have purchased these types of products, but she does seem to enjoy them and they are high-quality, so I'm happy. She's a rescue so I love that she is getting toys that are hers and hers alone for the first time. I could see how doing this for 12 months could be a little overwhelming because you'd have so many toys, but it's fun to just do for a short term thing! :)
